YELL - Young Europeans Learn Languages

The Young Europeans Love Languages project (YELL) aims to raise the motivation of young people to learn foreign languages outside a 'formal' learning environment.

It is being run by a European Network of 10 countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway and the UK.
What the project will do:

  • Share existing good practice from the network countries

  • Create a toolbox of ideas for introducing language learning with young people in diverse settings (e.g. social occasions, during sport or in using ICT) in order to promote language learning as fun and attractive.

  • Enhance collaboration between trainers and tutors of non-formal educational institutions (e.g. trainers and tutors of non-formal educational institutions; cultural, sport and social institutions; key actors for lifelong learning; national and European language learning networks; social partners) with the aim of making a cooperative effort to encourage language learning.
