Q. Where do I find information about studying abroad?

A. You can get personal help and advice at your local connexions or careers centre. For study in Europe you should see the PLOTEUS website.

Q. Do I have the right to study in another European country?

A. All EU/EEA citizens have the right to study in another country of the EU/EEA. Apply for courses as if you were a national of that country. There is no automatic right for UK citizens to study in other non EU/EEA countries. However many countries welcome foreign students.

Q. Is there any funding to study in another EU/EEA country?

A. EU/EEA nationals will be treated as a national of the target country for the purposes of study. Generally you will not have to pay tuition fees for your study course. However you will have to find money to pay for your everyday living e.g. accommodation, food, travel, study materials. Other options to study in another EU/EEA member state without the problem of finance are to take part in organised exchange schemes. The SOCRATES-ERASMUS programme provides funding for students spend between 3 and 12 months at a European university as part of their study course. Q. Where can I find information on courses in Europe? There is no automatic source of funding for UK nationals wishing to study in another no EU/EEA country. However there may be bursaries and grants available for certain courses/countries.

Q. Will my qualifications be recognised for entry to higher education in the EU/EEA?

A. As a guide if your qualifications would give you access to a higher education course in your home country then you should have the necessary qualifications to access courses throughout the EU/EE

Q. Will the qualifications I receive from studying in another EU/EEA country be recognised when I return home?

A. Higher education systems differ throughout the world with regard to length of study and course content. You should check this before starting a higher education course. You can have your foreign qualifications checked against the UK education system by NARIC. There will be a charge for this service.
